Outgoing Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane will arrive in Egypt tomorrow morning, and be unveiled to the media by African giants Al Ahly before he starts with training on Friday.

He is also expected to sign a two-year contract with Ahly, to make him the first ever man from the Sub-Saharan African region to coach this gigantic club.

This is according to reports from Cairo this morning, following the breaking news from Timeslive that Mosimane has resigned from Sundowns, and is heading to the record eight-time African champions.

Mosimane, who has just won a treble with the Brazilians, will be replacing Swiss coach Rene Weiler, who is expected to be released by the African Club of the Century tomorrow.

Frunsports.com understands that Mosimane had a marathon meeting with Sundowns President Patrice Motsepe yesterday, where his resignation letter was tabled. He had just signed a new four-year contract in May and the expectation is that the Al Ahly board will pay a compensation fee to Sundowns.

According to Egyptian football journalist Amr Fahmy, Mosimane is hugely respected in Egypt, and this stems from his time at Bafana Bafana, and also with Sundowns. In 2016, the 56 year-old beat five time African champs Zamalek in the group stages and in the final to win the maiden CAF Champions League title with Sundowns.

“From the very beginning that Pitso Mosimane’s name was mentioned, there was a lot of enthusiasm regarding his candidacy. He enjoys a lot of respect here in Egypt from his time at Bafana Bafana and games against Zamalek and Al Ahly.”

“Mosimane enjoys a lot of respect here, he’s a very tactical coach, knows how to deal with the pressure and plays mind games. I think people are excited about this possibility of Pitso finally coming to coach in Egypt,” Fahmy concluded on this breaking story.

Mosimane, who had also been roped in last year by Egyptian TV company TimeSports as an analyst for the African Cup of Nations tournament, is coming to an Al-Ahly team which has just clinched its 42nd Egyptian League title.

With the huge respect he commands in the Egyptian game, especially with members of the fourth estate and technical people, he won’t take long to settle.
