NAIROBI: Kenyan Premier League club AFC Leopards have denied interest in re-signing Luc Eymael.

The Belgian coach, who's previously also coached PSL sides Free State Stars, Black Leopards, and Polokwane City was fired by Tanzania's Young Africans (Yanga) after reportedly making racist remarks against a section of his team's fans.

Eymael, 60, referred to the fans as 'illiterate' and 'monkeys' after they questioned his tactics in Sunday's league win over Lipuli FC.

But then Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda says there is little chance of a second homecoming for Eymael, seven years after his first stint.

"We have no interest in having him. The reason being foreign coaches are expensive to maintain. (The current coach Anthony) Kimani has done a splendid job in a difficult environment and we are giving him another chance."

In a related development, Eymael claims he was 'provoked' into making the utterances by a Simba SC fan.

Simba and Yanga's cross-town rivals. The two teams have also dominated Tanzanian football for decades.

He says: "On Wednesday I was very frustrated after the game... I was disappointed with the direction of the fans," he explained.

"I didn't go for the interview, just went straight to my hotel. All people were calling me (names) but I did not want to respond.

"Then there is this one guy from Simba who kept harassing me, and I reacted."

The South African Football Association has released a statement and expressed solidarity and support for the Tanzania FA and Yanga SC.
