Chama: Friendly win boosts Zambia for CHAN

Chipolopolo Zambia captain Adrian Chama has described their 2-0 friendly win over Cameroon in Yaoundé as a huge boost ahead of the Total African Nations Championship, Cameroon 2020 that kicks off 2021 next week.

 

Zambia finished second at the Pre-CHAN Four Nations tournament, that hosts Cameroon had staged from January 1-7 in Yaoundé.

 

Chipolopolo kicked off the Four-Nation friendly tournament with a 3-3 draw against Niger before losing 2-0 to.

 

"The win gives us a lot of confidence going into the tournament because the morale in camp was low," Chama said.

 

"We had set a target that beating Cameroon should give us a boost."

 

 

Striker Collins Sikombe opened the scoring in the 48th minute, his third goal of the tournament. Defender Zachariah Chilongoshi added the second in the 59th minute to see Zambia finishing second on 4 points, three points behind Uganda who beat Niger 3-0 to win the Pre-CHAN tournament.

 

Total CHAN hosts Cameroon finished bottom of the round –robin event with one point compared to Niger’s four.

 

Chipolopolo now prepare to head to their Total CHAN Group D venue in Limbe ahead of the January 19 opening game against Tanzania. Guinea and Namibia are the other Group D sides.
